“A case in the Court of Appeal is threatening to overshadow the prime minister’s attempts in Glasgow next month to convince world leaders to sign up to more ambitious targets to reduce their fossil fuel emissions.”
That’s not campaigners talking, but that bastion of the English Establishment, The Times newspaper.
IGas has applied for planning permission to install a Steam Methane Reformation (SMR) unit to produce hydrogen at the Albury wellsite in Surrey.

Fossil fuel company IGas has been accused of misleading local residents with greenwash over its plans to develop its Bletchingley site in Surrey.
IGas say they plan to produce hydrogen at the site, which currently produces natural gas. An online exhibition tells local residents that the hydrogen will “be used in a variety of ways, including the potential to power local buses” and that this supports the “national transition towards net zero”.
Yet one local resident pointed out that the plans are very far from climate-friendly.

The Dunsfold Planning Inquiry opened today with UK Oil & Gas appealing against refusal by Surrey County Council for a new fossil fuel site.
Although the grounds for refusal focused on landscape and highways impacts, UKOG raised the issue of the need for more onshore fossil fuels and the policies it says support more exploration.
Kirsty Clough presented a statement to the Inquiry, on behalf on the Weald Action Group, challenging these claims. She told the Inquiry:

Surrey resident Sarah Finch is taking her legal challenge over Horse Hill oil to the Court of Appeal. To do this, she needs to raise an extra £25,000 for legal fees and court costs – and the Weald Action Group is supporting her all the way.
Campaigners from across the south-east are helping with a series of fundraising initiatives which kick off this month. First up, two campaigners, Simon and Sam, are embarking on a 1,000-mile bike ride from Kingston to Barcelona to help with raising funds and awareness for the campaign ahead. UKOG has applied to the Environment Agency for a drilling permit, despite no decision made yet by the Isle of Wight Planning Committee. We believe this to be a deliberate attempt to influence the decision of the application if the EA grants the permit in advance.
The Team of the Don’t Drill The Wight Campaign are urging communities to respond to the consultation following the EA Guidelines. We are also writing to Bob Seely MP to ask him to respond in objection to the permit.

IGas are proposing to install hydrogen generation systems at two of their sites in Surrey, at Albury and Bletchingley.
Hydrogen burns without producing any carbon dioxide and other emissions except water. Consequently, IGas are claiming that their hydrogen production can be part of the transition to the UK Net Zero.
This is misleading on a number of grounds. Their plans will lead to a significant increase in emissions at their sites in Surrey.

We pay tribute to Max Rosenberg, whose funeral was held today at the Clandon Wood natural burial site in Surrey. This is a message from the Weald Action Group, A Voice for Leith Hill, Brockham Oil Watch and the Horse Hill campaign.
The temporary injunction against protests granted to UK Oil & Gas Plc (UKOG) could be finalised in June – and ‘Persons Unknown’, should be removed .
Five defendants supported by the Weald Action Group have been fighting the far-reaching and draconian injunction for more than 3 years.
