Save the Date: Shale Trail 18 June 2023
18th June 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join local campaigners on a walk between two sites in Surrey where companies plan to expand the production of shale oil, Horse Hill and Brockham.
On the longest day of the year, we will enjoy the beauty of the countryside, raise awareness of the oil sites, connect with the local communities, and commit to protect our area and the global climate.
- Meet: 1.30pm at Horse Hill, RH6 0HN. There is very limited car parking at the beginning of this walk.
- Walk: Starts at 2pm for 6.5 miles (10km) linear walk. The first half of the walk involves a lot of stiles and a gentle incline. We will stop for snacks (please bring your own) at The Green at Leigh, RH2 8RF, around 4pm. After this the walk is flat and there are no stiles. If you’d prefer a shorter walk, please join us at Leigh.
- Tea and talks: 6.30pm. There will be tea, cakes and talks, and the bar will be open, at Dorking Rugby Club, Kiln Lane, Brockham, RH3 7LZ.

Horse Hill Supreme Court Case
This walk will take place just days before the Supreme Court hears a case brought by campaigner Sarah Finch, on behalf of the Weald Action Group, into the legality of the plans for Horse Hill. Sarah is arguing that Surrey County Council should not have permitted four new oil wells and 20 years of oil production at Horse Hill without considering the full climate impacts of the project. If the Court decides in her favour, this will be an important precedent for all fossil fuel projects in the UK.
